Our little bundle of joy is getting so big!
Since I haven’t updated our page for awhile after Brenden surprised us all with his early and rather startling arrival, and since he’s approaching his 6 month birthday (only a couple more weeks!), I figured I should give some highlights. Last week (just past 5 months) he weighed in at 15 lbs, 2 oz, and is up to 25 inches long. As he approaches his 6 month birthday, he’s also approaching wearing 6-9 month clothes, so he’s definitely caught up in a hurry as he isn’t lagging anymore size wise. Hard to believe in the last 5 months he’s already gone through 3 sizes of clothes and is about to outgrow the 4th lol He’s the happiest baby I’ve ever seen, and smiles all the time. We’ve got him giggling now and then now too, and it’s the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard and will make me dissolve into giggles of my own if we can get him doing it long enough. They start off sounding a little like coughing, but then it turns into a giggle. He discovered a new noise he can make last weekend though that will grate your nerves. It’s a half screechy/half whiny sound he will make normally when he’s playing by himself, and we’re hoping he tires of it soon. At least he seems to be starting to work it in with his other (MUCH CUTER) noises now, so at least it’s not constant like when he first discovered it.Â

His current fixation is trying to sit up (I attribute that to that little girlfriend of his at daycare hah). And his most recent discovery is his feet. He’ll roll all over the place trying to keep a hold of those little toes of his. He’s a strong little guy and has gotten very good at holding himself upright; I don’t think it will be long before he’s sitting up all on his own (he’s good at playing airplane). After that it probably won’t be too long until he’s crawling around either. My bet is he’ll be after the dog like a shot when he can move around, since he gets the biggest smiles when she walks by him and he’ll twist all over trying to keep watching her as she’s walking around the room. He lights up whenever he sees daddy too (you can tell he knows daddy means play and tickle time), but still prefers mommy when he needs comforting (which mommy doesn’t mind in the least).

Let’s see what else. He’s been eating cereal for about a month now (mixed with formula and apple juice), and has gotten really good at it (that’s not just a proud parent saying it either, the lady at daycare was remarking he was really good at it as well, especially since it’s a learned rather than instinctual skill). He barely gets any pushed back out of his mouth while he’s chewing and swallowing anymore. Last week we tried squash, but he wasn’t real big on that, so we tried pears this week and he seems to enjoy those a lot. You could tell those brain cells were working trying to figure out that texture the first time he had them haha Maybe next we’ll try bananas since they seem to mix those with a lot of other fruits, so that will give us even more options early on.Â

Last night we had our first portrait session for pictures and it was a lot of fun. They made sure at daycare that he had a bottle about 30 minutes before I picked him up so he was nice and full. He seems to have decided most days he’s only going to nap about 2.5 hours instead of his previous 4+, so he hadn’t napped in awhile, but he was very good at the studio. You could tell by the end he was getting tired though, rubbing his eyes and just getting really fidgety, but we got a lot of cute shots. At least we got them before those teeth come in so we have some really cute toothless baby pictures ^^ After a few minutes of crying when we were done, he settled down for a nap so I was luckily able to go through and get the order done up without feeling rushed, and we get them in 2 weeks. It was hard getting shots without that hand in his mouth though. Since he’s starting to teethe (you can feel hard ridges, but nothing has popped yet and I’ve been told it can take a couple days or months even after you feel that for them to pop out), he always is chewing on something, very often his hand. There were a couple times parts of the set at the studio made their way into his mouth as wellÂ

I think that should pretty well catch us up to date. I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted new pictures too, but we’ve been battling some skin issues and lots and lots of scratching the past few weeks, so I haven’t taken as many as normal. We finally seem to have most of the irritation under control and his scratches have healed up and he isn’t making constant new ones, so expect more pictures again soon. I will also see if I can get the studio pictures scanned in when they come in and post at least a couple of those as well. Take care all!
