Our puppy, the mighty little hunter.
Two weekends ago with it being so nice outside, I let Atari run loose in the back yard. I’ve started doing this more often, in the hopes that she will start coming in when called when she’s out loose if she gets to do it more frequently and doesn’t see it as a special thing where she needs to try and squeeze every possible minute outside that she can. So far it’s been working fairly well (although she’s still fenced in too), especially if you open the pnut butter jar while standing on the back porchÂ
Anyway, she had been outside for awhile, and when I went to check on her she was just sitting and panting in the brush pile next to our fence. A little while earlier when I had looked outside, she was pulling sticks out of the pile, nothing too out of the ordinary, she loves playing with them. However since it was now a good 10 or more minutes later and she was just sitting there, I knew something was up.
Â
So I grabbed my shoes and trekked out to the pile to see what she’d been digging at. Lo and behold, under the part of the pile she hadn’t managed to dismantle yet, sat a huddled little baby bunny, so young his eyes weren’t open yet. I didn’t see any other little fuzzies lying about, so she hadn’t managed to get to any of them, and only the one was unburied from its nest (it must have been the adventurous one). Just behind it there was a small pile of leaves with some tufts of bunny fur mixed in, so the others were still buried in the nest. Suffice it to say, she hasn’t been out free the last couple weeks without some supervision, I want them to at least be able to flee properly before we let her free again lol
Â
Last week during one of my checks to see if I could see them yet, I did see 2 little faces peering out from under the leaf/fur pile, and there eyes were open ^.^ Then 2 days ago when I was on my way to visit with some friends, Chris called to tell me one of them had fallen into one of the wells along the house and couldn’t get out. So they are definitely out and about a bit now and soooo small still. I am definitely jealous he got to be the one to rescue it from the window well. I did make him take pictures for me, since the only ones I have been able to get so far, it’s hard to see them hiding amongst the brush (but I will post what I have anyway).Â
